Brake drum crack inspection

A formula vee can see loads up to 1.9 Gs in the turns. The brake drums take much of that load in an effort to get you through turn.   It's important to look for any signs of a crack forming before they propagate in to a broken drum.

Generally they start to form around the inspection holes. If you see something that looks like a crack, don't wipe it off or scratch it with your fingernail to see if it goes away! Get a flashlight and magnifying glass and inspect it carefully. If it appears to possibly be a crack, it should be Magnafluxed before further use to find out for sure.
